Earth | Timelapse

Beautiful video that puts everything into better perspective.

Watch in full screen and turn up the volume.

I love this on so many levels. The music is perfect (a blend of trip-hop and ambient), and completely complimentary of the technological serenity of the composition. It could easily have been some cheesy Classical selection, or boring couch music in the key of F.

The amount of light taken in by this camera and the smoothness of the traveling over Earth is surreal. The Aurora Borealis glows majestically over a planet filled with trillions of organisms all fighting to survive for death. This is the kind of work that makes me realize just how insignificant I am. In all of this, any one of us individuals is a gnat on the back of a mosquito on a planet of dinosaurs.

At this altitude and distance from Earth, why would I or anyone be afraid? It took billions of years for the planet to get where it is now to sustain death. We're lucky to live in an era where this kind of imagery can reach so many people and inspire as much as freak the fuck out.
